New RTO Norms for Electric Vehicles in India
Government might have a new scheme for promoting the usage of electric or battery-operated vehicles – there will no longer be any need for issue or renewal of registration certificate(RC).

As per the newest reports coming in, the ministry of road transport and Highway has now issued a  draft notification that proposes to exempt the vehicles operated by battery from paying the fees or issuing or renewal of registration certificate (RC).

This will definitely play a huge part in the government’s push for electrically powered vehicles.

In a statement issued by the ministry, it has been clarified that it is seeking comments from the general public and all stakeholders. However, these comments will be welcome within a period of 30 days from the date of issuance of this draft notification.

As per the statement,

“The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification dated May 27, 2021, further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, proposing to exempt BOV from payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of RC and assignment of new registration mark.”

The statement also says that this notification has been issued in order to push e-mobility.
