Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was launched in 2014 by the government of India. The main aim of this scheme is to link people of all the sectors to the banking system. The scheme aims to make sure that every family/individual should at least have one bank account. Through this scheme, every citizen could access all the financial subsidies passed by the government along with the banking schemes – directly by being on the grid, thereby eliminating the possibility of a middleman/contractor cheating them of their rightful dues.
The accounts opened under this scheme are Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts with the feature of RuPay debit card and an overdraft. PMJDY also provides inbuilt accident insurance as well. In order to apply for PMJDY, you can fill the form online and you must be an Indian citizen in order to open the account under this scheme.
Minors above 10 years of age are also eligible to open the bank account under this scheme. Overdraft facility of up to Rs.10,000/- is available in only one account per household, preferably lady of the household. You need not deposit any amount of money to open a Jan Dhan account and this scheme provides every account holder with a RuPay debit card.
How to open Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account?
Documents
In order to open Jan Dhan account, the documents which are permissible as eligibility proof are:
- Driving licence,
- Aadhaar card,
- Voter id issued by the Election Commission of India,
- Passport,
- PAN card,
- NREGA issued job card signed by a state government officer
- or any document notified by the Central Government.
