Get up to 50% off on train tickets with this IRCTC concession

Indian Railways grant concession in the fares of all classes of Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, Duronto group of trains to male senior citizens of minimum 60 years and female senior citizen of minimum 58 years. According to IRCTC, the element of concession is 40% for men and 50% for women.

Male senior citizens of minimum 60 years and female senior citizen of minimum 58 years can avail senior citizen concession on IRCTC e-ticketing website www.irctc.co.in by providing correct age and selecting “Avail Concession” option under “Option for Senior Citizen Concession” section of the Passenger Details form. Note that passengers availing senior citizen concession have to carry proof of age while travelling.

The minimum age for women availing the senior citizen concession has been reduced from 60 years to 58 years. The element of concession is 50% of the PRS fare. It may be noted that the concession to senior citizens is granted only on demand and not by default. The demand for a concession is to be made while filling Reservation Requisition form by clicking the checkbox for senior citizens.

As per IRCTC website, while booking the ticket if not opted for Senior Citizen concession, the same is not provided. The ticket once issued cannot be modified to the Senior Citizen Concessional ticket and also the difference of fare is not refundable.
