As per a notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, FASTags will be compulsory for all 4-wheelers from January 1, 2021.
FASTags were made mandatory for new 4-wheelers sold from December 2017 onwards. However, now all 4-wheelers, irrespective of their year of manufacturing, will be required to have FASTags. FASTag has become mandatory for M and N class four-wheelers sold before December 1, 2017. For this, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 were amended. The ministry issued a notification regarding this on November 6.
