Don’t fall prey for fake WhatsApp calls and messages – SBI

State Bank of India (SBI) recently alerted its customers about a possible scam through fake WhatsApp calls and messages. The bank has warned account holders about suspicious WhatsApp calls and messages that might trick them in to share their banking details.

In a tweet, the Bank said, “Customers are now being targeted on WhatsApp. Don’t let cybercriminals fool you! Please be aware and stay vigilant.” The lender also explained how the scam works and how the customers can avoid falling into fraudsters’ trap. Note that with the rise in digital payments, the online banking frauds have also increased. Cybercriminals are now targetting people via WhatsApp calls and messages.

How the scammers trap people and how it can be avoided:

Informing customers about winning lottery and asking them to contact an SBI number.

Be aware that SBI never calls or asks for personal or account-specific information through Email/SMS/Call/WhatsApp Calls.
